Natural History
Believed to be related to the Reidi, They are sold at about 2-3" in size which is nearly adult. The max size I've seen come in and after having them a year have been around 5". They are commonly found in the Atlatic amoungst sea grass beds off the Florida Keys. I havn't yet identified them but it's not just a color pattern that will change. All the Zebras I've recieved in have held their stripes with out fading off. They stay true to their stripes and horizontal black and white stripes. They are tank bred and raised easily and make great parrents.
Conservation
Like their brethren, zebra seahorses face an uncertain future. Coastal population pressure and the accompanying dredging, pollution and development are destroying their natural homes. With more advancement in the aquarium industry however these animals are now on the up rise thanks to those who are now breeding in the home aquaria and fish farms. This animal is a tank bred animal and not collected from the ocean like others. You may find a lesser price somewhere else but buying through us increases the interest in tank bred animals for conservation of natural resources and habitats. They feed very well off of Frozen Mysis alone. I kept my first several Zebras when they were accidently shipped to me some years back and have been fantastic breeders and hold true to their color patterns. I never put them up for sale till now not knowing the species but I have a growing population and willing to part with some semi-adults now which are old enough to breed.
Cool Facts
Zebra seahorses live among beds of sea grass. With their long tails, they hitch themselves to blades of grass and coral as they graze on tiny animals that drift by with the currents.
