It likes to eat Mostly photosynthetic, may accept meaty bits, phytoplankton and microplankton.. The Clavularia species is generally semi-aggressive toward other tankmates. Many consider the Clavularia species a low-maintenance specimen. Not venomous. Has intermediate lighting needs.Symbiotic algae zooxanthellae are hosted within this organism. The Eight Tentacle Polyps, Encrusting Pipe Coral, Encrusting Star Polyp requires intermediate water flow. Star Polyps are a staple addition to many reef aquariums. Often noted as a good indicator of water quality and flow, these corals will often react to changes in water parameters by ceasing to open or not opening at all. Care should be taken as to the placement of this coral as if given the right placement in good water, will often grow out of control. Large colonies resemble an almost psychadellic phosphorescent lawn. Coral encrusts rock and dead hard coral skeletons with a waxy fiberous substance from which polyps emerge. When a rock is crowded the colonies often react by sloughing this waxy growth that can be glued to another rock. Tying this substance will also encourage the new colony to attach. Often the tissue left behind on the old rock will eventually sprout an additional colony. Keep pH and alkalinity in balance in order to encourage growth of this flashy coral. Keep water quality high (SG 1.023 - 1.025, pH 8.1 - 8.4, Temp. 72 - 78° F). The Star Polyps (Green Assorted) is commonly collected from Indo-Pacific. Due to variations in growth of Corals from depth, environment, flow, etc. it is impossible to pinpoint exact sizes. These sizes are very approximate and will not apply in all situations.
