Natural History: The green pipefish is found in protected reef zones with healthy growths of algae. Interestingly, it lacks a caudal fin and has a prehensile tail. It has been observed to leap out of the water onto floating debris when frightened.
Husbandry: It is best kept in an aquarium with Caulerpa which it will hold onto with its prehensile tail. It will eat live mysid or brine shrimp, and larger specimens may take grass shrimp. It should be housed with other unaggressive fish.
Reproduction: The male Green Pipefish receives the eggs from the female and broods them on the underside of his body.
