No matter how quick you ship your liverock, you should always assume that your rock needs to be recurred again.  Follow these steps...

  1. Shake the live rock up and down in a large bucket of saltwater to shake off any dead zooplankton or other dead animal or plant material.
  2. Scrape with your finger any dead or dieing animal, plant, sponge or other to remove it from the rock.
  3. Visually inspect every single crevice and hole in each rock.  Use a coat hanger if necessary to seek any dead animals.  Some times starfish, crabs, clams or other animals crawl up into these holes and even though there is nothing wrong with the rock, there may be a dead animal inside the rock that could cause a considerable ammonia or nitrite toxin spike.
  4. Smell every piece of rock individually.  They should be slightly damp and smell like the ocean.  Not putrid or foul smelling.  If the entire box is foul, call us within 24hours to see if you are covered by a warranty.  If you shipped 2nd Day or Quicker, we will cover replacing your product.  However, you the customer is ultimatily in charge and if you choose to ship anything slower than 2nd Day would be the customers responsibility and won't be in most cases covered by the shippers insurance which only covers their liability for damage, loss or theft.
  5. Another good rinsing should be done and then once convinced that there is as much die off washed off as possible, it should be put in an isolation tank.  This is just good husbandry.  Take insurance and isolate any new live stock, not just with live rock, but also tropical fish, corals, etc. for a period of at least two weeks.  After two weeks you find no toxin levels such as ammonia or nitrite and everything appears to be visually good such as no continued die off or disease, then you are now ready to begin placing the rock (or other livestock) in your main tank.
  6. Remember that depending upon a myriad of variables, your choice of shipping, any stow away animals in the rock, clams in the rock, etc.... Even the freshest pre-cured live rock could take any where from 0 days - 4 months to cure.  Everyone is a different circumstance.  Some may recieve rock ready to into the tank immediately and others take much longer.  However, if there was something wrong with the rock, it will be very bad smelling immediately upon delivery and if you notify us within 24 hours of delivery, we can help you.  We can't help you with delayed complaints because we aren't warrantied on our rock and two, there's no way for us to confirm the customer didn't allow it to sit too long before placing into the tank nor can we confirm conditions of a tank.  All Rock contains very good Beneficial bacterium which thrive on ammonia, nitrite and nitrate which is the big reason to have live rock in your tank.  Any high ammonia or toxin spikes no matter how long it takes to cure may harm or kill off any fish or coral which the rock is supposed to be cured in a sepperate isolation tank first anyway, but will actually grow very fast bacterium in high quantitiy making it even better rock!  You may loose color or other durring this process but if you are providing proper lighting and additives like kalkwasser calcium, strotinum and magnesium, all coral line algae and purple and other will grow back fairly quickly and your toxins will go away!  Do not feed the tank, do not add any coral or fish or any other livestock durring this period of high toxins while a natural cycle process occurs.  Adding additional saltwater bacteria and enzyme will help greatly expedite the process.  Live Sand like Aragalive is very beneficial if you are not already using it!
  7. The following chemicals are a must have for any reef system, especially for the health and well being of your live rocks coraline and coral growth!

Important Shipping Information:  As with any livestock, you should always choose the quickest form of shipping method you can afford in order to receive your animal(s) or livestock in the best condition possible.  Oceanpro Aquatics, Inc. pays to insure our customers products at no extra charge as a curtasy for doing business with us, but in some circumstances depending upon shipper such as UPS, the item may only be covered for damage, loss or theft but not death or loss of quality too any perishable items such as fish, live rock, livesand, and most all other livestock because the customer chooses the slowest form of shipping.  Such shipping like parcel post may be fine for local customers but not for someone of considerable distance.  You, the customer has the ultimate choice though.  For further details and more information with UPS, you may visit their website direct at http://www.UPS.com .  We have nothing to gain by suggesting a more expensive shipping method.  We would just like to see all our customers receive their product in the fastest possible time and in the best possible condition!  After you choose your product and prior to any purchase commitment, you will be given several shipping options and their respective costs allowing you the ultimate choice of shipping.  Thanks for the opportunity to do business together.  Oceanpro Aquatics, Inc. provides a limted warranty (ask sales person for details or a written copy for details) when the customer ships overnight for any livestock!  This would include the "Free Critter" we often give away in any special offer.   If you have any questions, you may always first contact us toll free at (800)722-0421.  Keep in mind that if any claim is made for shipping damage recieved and it is for a livestock item and not shipped overnight as suggested, Oceanpro will help you make a claim but it must be done within 24 hours of receipt of the item which is plenty of time to notice any damaged condition or death to the livestock and replacement of the item will not be made until "All Product Shipped" is returned to us after first having a UPS representative come to your home for an inspection who will ship the item(s) back to us and only after we have recieved a full refund by UPS Insurance.  This is just a courtasy on our part to pay for additional shipping insurance as a thank you for doing business with us even in the event you choose to not overnight your livestock as suggested.  (See our Shipping Insurance and Warranty Policies in detail posted online at our knowledgebase section and all over our website and in our stores) or visit http://www.oceanproaquatics.com/shop/activekb/index.php?ToDo=browse&catId=5 .
